That is easy to verify and no new science. Check out for “mitochondria” in your google research. And, as you are with it, check the difference between
Mitose and Meiose to be fully sure. For changing your genes they are some decades late. I am sorry for this “Mr KnowItAll”, but I cannot let it go once it is so clear and easy to verify.
