It’s been a while since my last post. Too much things are happening. Life is back to almost normal. No, wait, there is the new variant (the Delta variant) pushing the numbers up again. Will we have a new lockdown soon (a summer lockdown for a change)?
Anyways, I’ve been quite busy lately and barely taking advantage of the “back to normal period”. I’ve been doing a lot of things and not even finding the time to share them. One of these things is quite important to me though, and i cannot leave on vacations without sharing it. It is my first ever radio piece, and it talks about my last visit to Beirut in April, and about my relation to the city and to my father, Lebanese actor Antoine Kerbage.
This visit to Beirut was my first in more than one and a half year, and it was intense to say the least. I mostly stayed at home with my mother, and worked on the new chapter of my ongoing graphic novel “Antoine”. I worked in Antoine’s room that I transformed in an atelier and an open archive. I put some pictures from these two weeks below, and I won’t say anything more because I think everything is to be found in the radio piece.
The piece is a short one (15 minutes) that was commissioned by the German radio Deutschlandfunk Kultur, and you can listen to it in its original english version at the link below. I’ve been told it was funny, but also quite sad (like most of my work i am tempted to say). So be aware.

Beautiful and sad and funny. Listened to it in English and German . Both versions are great. Was totally immersed in the sound universe of this story.
hi cristina,
i replied to you some days ago but i just noticed my reply wasn’t here (another mystery from the mighty berlin internet connections).
i am glad to hear you compares both versions. i insisted on doing the german myself to keep the same (awful) french accent that i have in all languages i speak (hopefully not in the arabic though!). for the record, i didn’t do the translation to german, but the people from the radio. my german is still at the level of “restaurants deutsch”.
This is beautiful, Mazen. So glad I finally got to hear it.
thank you andrea. this means a lot to me.

choukran for your message amal.
it is great to hear you have been infected by the work of all the family!
Funny that you use the term infection because I am a virologist . I know you work through Raed who is an old friend. I am coming to Berlin to see Raed and mounira exhibition. I hope we get to cross path.
hahaha that’s quite funny. i always think of the works that move my as infectious.
and yes, maybe see you in berlin!
Hi again Mazen,
I woke up thinking about your piece after I listened to it yesterday. Indeed some works can be infectious haha. I would like to listen to the German version, I am curious because I took a German class 15 years ago and I know how to sing some Brecht songs and Schubert lieder . I thought it would be fun to listen to the German version especially that I know already the content. I have a small Hitler story ( but not as interesting as yours 🙂
But I could not find the German version. Could you please share it?
