After 6 days of trial and error, i finally managed yesterday to record a piece with 3 overdubs, in replacement of the Sawt Out canceled gig of last Sunday. It took time to find out how to record overdubs, to film them and to edit all this in a split screen movie, but since time is what I mainly have these days, I was glad to use it for that. In my “normal life” it is really a luxury to be able to start learning something one day and to continue the second day from where you left it at.
ABOUT THE MUSIC:
Sawt Out is a trio with two fantastic percussionists from Berlin: Burkhard Beins and Michael Vorfeld. The group started when I moved to Berlin in 2015, and, immediately after our first gig at Labor Sonor, it was clear that this should continue as a steady group. It is definitely one of my favourite groups to play – and hang out between gigs – with. Lately, a friend who is quite familiar with our music described the gig he just attended as follows: it’s as if all the decisions that each musician takes at any given moment are taken by the same brain.
The piece you are going to listen to in the video below was recorded yesterday afternoon, and it is my solo answer to the incapacity of reunion with the other musicians. It sounds as a pale replacement of the trio’s music; however, it was recorded with Burkhard and Michael in mind, and it is dedicated to both of them.
(I will upload next week the audio mix on Bancamp for free download).
Was that Nick? 😁 He is absolutely right. ❤ Thx, Mazen, great job.
I could hear both of them i.e. the whole trio. Greetings to all of you from East-Berlin!
