Riding the Fifth Wave (I)

During the light setup for the portrait, a few minutes prior to Raed’s phone call – Photo by Tony Elieh

It all started exactly twelve days ago. My friend Tony Elieh was here to take portraits of me for the press kit of my upcoming trumpet solo release (Sampler/Sampled out in February 2022 on Morphine records). After deciding for the background and the overall ambiance, and setting up the lights, Tony made a dozen of test shots and we agreed on what the portrait should look like (“we agreed” in this context means I told him “you know better Tony”). Before shooting the first picture, Tony received a phone call:
– Hi Raed… Yes… What?… But whom?… You think so?… Ok.
I was looking at him wondering what kind of new problem he and Raed were trying to solve, when he hanged-up, looked at me with a very serious face and said:
– Man, someone who attended yesterday’s gig tested positive. I have to go home and quarantine for five days. Bye.
The next thing I remember was taking a couple of minutes to laugh alone about the situation. It reminded me of the hard first and second lockdown days. Then I started to frantically disinfect every single thing that Tony might have touched with his filthy hands.
(to be continued)
